Announcing a new round of Creative Resistance!
The world is still hard. My social media feeds are still filled with chaos and cruelty. And yet, I still find a measure of balance and calm in my art space. You don’t need your own studio. You don’t need the expensive paper or the precious paints. You don’t need any experience to benefit from slinging paint in a supportive community. And that’s what we are all about: Resisting with creativity!
Resist the mandate to be silent.
Resist sinking into despair.
Resist the inclination to retreat into fear.
Our monthly Creative Resistance sessions are an invitation to express yourself with loud and joyful colors, a safe place to move energy and nurture your soul. Creative Resistance sessions are a welcoming space to remember that you are not alone.
Engaging in creativity helps you drop into the flow state - that state of being where you focus only what is right in front of you and let go of everything else, at least for a while. Being in community is an act of solidarity that satisfies our primal need to gather together.
When you put these two elements together, when you create in community, something magical happens. In the words of one of our creative resisters, “it works!”
The details:
We’ll meet once a month on Saturdays from 11:00am eastern until 12:30, around the middle of each month on Zoom. The creative process varies each month and accommodates all skill levels.
Our first Creative Resistance session will be on Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 eastern. We’ll start this round by moving the energy and slinging paints onto a pad of newsprint. I’m a new believer in newsprint - one of the most non-precious art materials available. That “non-preciousness” has been the key to loosening up and outsmarting perfectionism. It just doesn’t matter how your piece looks because you just flip it over the top and begin again. Newsprint helps you release expectations and concern for outcomes. And that is a joyful space to create in.
I’m trying a new thing:
You now have the option to become a “Creative Resister” when you sign up for a whole year of Creative Resistance sessions. The Creative Resister level is $100 which is like getting two sessions for free! Or if you prefer, you can pay as you go for $10 per session. The next couple of sessions will be on December 13th and January 17th, with more to come.
Once you sign up, I’ll send you a list of supplies for the next session and the Zoom link.
